Automatic Process Control (IC018) (Process Control Fundamentals)
Dates: Version 3:
December 1985 - February 1988.* Version 4: March 1988 - March 1996.
Credit recommendation: Version 3 or 4: In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours in Control Systems, Industrial Instrumentation, or Process Control (11/85 revalidation) (3/91 revalidation). *NOTE: Earlier versions of this course, dating from July 1983 to November 1985, have been recommended for credit. Please consult the 1990 edition of the Directory for further information or contact the Program office. NOTE: Complete information on Versions 3 and 4 of this course last appeared in the 2000 edition.

Bailey 7000 Instruments (IC017)
Location:
Susquehanna Training Center, Berwick, PA.
Length: Version 1: 80 hours (2 weeks); includes 40 hours of supervised laboratory experience. Version 2 or 3: 120 hours (3 weeks); includes 80 hours of supervised laboratory experience. Version 4: 160 hours (4 weeks); includes 70 hours of supervised laboratory experience.
Dates: Version 1: February 1984 - February 1986. Version 2: March 1986 - February 1989. Version 3: March 1989 - May 1995. Version 4: June 1995 - December 2007.
Objectives: Version 1 or 2: To train instrument and control technicians to operate, calibrate, test, and troubleshoot measurement and process control instrumentation. Version 3 or 4: Explain the circuit operation of the Bailey 7000 Instruments using simplified schematics; locate test signals utilized during troubleshooting; perform card calibrations; troubleshoot measurement and process control instrumentation.
Instruction: Version 1, 2, 3, or 4: Instrument generic block diagrams; instrument installation; control units; measurement and linearizing units; signal conditioners; signal indicators; operational amplifiers. The laboratory portion provides the opportunity to conduct experiments on control instruments and systems typically found in industrial plants. Although the Bailey 7000 series instruments are used as the basis for instruction, the theory, operation, and use are generic to most modern instruments and systems.
Credit recommendation: Version 1, 2, 3, or 4: In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours (2 lecture, 1 laboratory) in Control Systems, Industrial Instrumentation, or Process Control (6/84) (4/90 revalidation) (5/95 revalidation) (7/00 revalidation).

I & C Eclectic Retraining (IC091)
Dates:
September 1990 - March 1996.
Credit recommendation: In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 1 semester hour of laboratory in Control Systems, Industrial Instrumentation, or Process Control (3/91). NOTE: Complete information on this course last appeared in the 2000 edition.

Pneumatic Instruments (IC036)
Dates: Version 2:
August 1987 - August 1989.* Version 3: September 1989 - March 1996.
Credit recommendation: Version 2 or 3: In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 1 semester hour in Industrial Instrumentation, Process Controls, or Control Systems (12/86) (2/91 revalidation). *NOTE: An earlier version of this course, dating from May 1986 to May 1987, has been recommended for credit. Principles of Process Instrumentation (IC007)
Location:
Susquehanna Training Center, Berwick, PA.
Length: Version 1: 40 hours (1 week); includes 20 hours of supervised laboratory experience. Version 2 or 3: 80 hours (2 weeks); includes 40 hours of supervised laboratory experience.
Dates: Version 1: May 1982 - May 1986. Version 2: June 1986 - March 1989. Version 3: April 1989 - December 2007.
Objectives: Version 1 or 2: To familiarize participants with the theory and operation of sensors and instruments used in process control measurements. Version 3: Explain the theory of pressure, flow, level, and temperature measurement and the principles of operation of typical types of basic instruments fundamental to process instrumentation.
Instruction: Version 1, 2 or 3: Principles pertaining to the theory and operation of measurement devices. Devices used to measure pressure (barometer, pressure gauges, Bourdon tubes, bellows, diaphragm, and electrical pressure elements), flow (head meters, rotameters, and volumetric meters), level (differential pressure level, BWR level applications, BWR vessel level instrument calibration, and differential pressure transmitters), temperature (thermometers, thermocouples, thermistors, and resistance temperature detectors). Laboratory exercises emphasizing the application and calibration of sensors and commercial instruments are included.
Credit recommendation: Version 1 or 2: In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 2 semester hours in Industrial Instrumentation or Process Control (6/84). Version 3: In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 2 semester hours (1 lecture, 1 laboratory) in Industrial Instrumentation or Process Control (4/90 revalidation) (5/95 revalidation) (7/00 revalidation).

Soldering and PCB Repair (IC004) (Soldering Techniques)
Dates: Version 1:
July 1981 - February 1991.
Version 2: March 1991 - March 1996.
Credit recommendation: Version 1 or 2: In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 1 semester hour in Electrical Construction and Maintenance (11/85) (3/91 revalidation). NOTE: Complete information on this course last appeared in the 2000 edition.
