Descriptions and credit recommendations

Instructor Development Course
Location:
State Police Academy, State Campus, Albany, NY.
Length: Minimum 64 hours.
Dates: Version 1: January 1983 - January 1990. Version 2: February 1990 - June 2004.
Objectives: Version 1: To provide the student with a foundation of the pedagogical skills and tools necessary to become an instructor. Version 2: Apply various learning theories and techniques appropriate to a given lesson; exhibit confidence in the classroom setting; introduce teaching methods that will reduce the stress associated with teaching; conduct a job analysis in order to assess students’ needs; apply pedagogical skills that will make teaching more effective; assist students in developing their learning potential; evaluate various forms of verbal and nonverbal communication to enhance classroom presentation; conduct program evaluations; adopt strategies that will motivate students to learn.
Instruction: Version 1 or 2: Learning theory; needs assessment; research skills; designing instructional material; performance objectives; utilizing visual aids; lesson plans and lesson preparation; evaluation techniques; motivational strategies; and practice in presentation.
Credit recommendation: Version 1 or 2: In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours as an elective in Education (4/85) (4/91 revalidation) (6/96 revalidation) (10/01revalidation).
