Legal Issues in Corrections for Supervisors: Inmates’ Rights and Responsibilities
Dates:
March 1980 - July 1980.*
Credit recommendation: In the upper division baccalaureate degree category, 3 semester hours in Criminal Justice or Law (7/80). *NOTE: Complete information on this course can be found in the 1994 edition.

Network Training Program
Dates: Version 1:
January 1979 - August 1988. Version 2: September 1988 - October 1990.*
Credit recommendation: Version 1 or 2:
In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category or in the upper division baccalaureate degree category, 4 semester hours in Criminal Justice, Psychology, or Social Work; or in the graduate degree category, 2 semester hours in Counseling Psychology, Criminal Justice, Planned Change, Psychology, or Social Work (9/81) (10/89 revalidation). *NOTE: Complete information on this course can be found in the 1998 edition.
College Officials, Please Note: The course, Shock Incarceration Program, which may have been an outgrowth of this course, has not been recommended for college credit.

Train-The-Trainer (Also known as MPTC Instructor Development School)
Location: New York State Department of Correctional Services Training Academy, 1134 New Scotland Road, Albany, NY.
Length: Version 1: 60 hours (2 weeks). Version 2: 80 hours (2 weeks).
Dates: Version 1: September 1986 - October 1994. Version 2: November 1994 - Present.
Objectives: Version 1 or 2: Contribute to the development of a needs assessment and task analysis; develop complete performance objectives; select instructional strategies that relate directly to performance objectives; demonstrate a variety of instructional delivery strategies; produce and use original training aids effectively; design test items in a variety of formats that measure performance objectives appropriately.
Instruction: Version or 2: Legal aspects of training; needs assessment; task analysis; developing performance objectives; instructional strategies; designing instructional delivery strategies; production and use of training aids; instructional evaluation; test item design in a variety of formats; link between test items and performance objectives; group discussion techniques; applying the basics of group discussion to specific techniques; using lecture and demonstration as teaching strategies. Students submit two well-organized lesson plans and present the courses to their peers and instructors using research materials, models, handouts, and other illustrative materials during a five and ten-minute presentations on subjects not related to the field. Students will also present a fifty-minute lesson plan on a Corrections related topic utilizing various training aids. Presentations are recorded by video camera to aid in feedback and evaluation.
Credit recommendation: Version 1: In the upper division baccalaureate degree category, 4 semester hours in Criminal Justice Education, or in the graduate degree category, 1 semester hour in Criminal Justice Education (10/89). Version 2: In the upper division baccalaureate degree category, 4 semester hours as Educational Methods in Education or as an elective in Criminal Justice, or in the graduate degree category, 1 semester hour in Education (12/98) (7/05 revalidation).

Train-The-Trainer - Chemical Agents
Location: New York State Department of Correctional Services Training Academy, 1134 New Scotland Road, Albany, NY.
Length: 80 hours (2 weeks).
Dates: December 1993 - Present.
Objectives: Deliver instruction in the specialized area of chemical agents.
Instruction: This course builds on the Train-The-Trainer course. Course participants develop individual lesson plans and evaluation materials and deliver presentations on the specialized content. Subject matter covered includes: discussion of modern chemical agents and their effects; methods of dispersion; toxicity; decontamination procedures; Departmental guidelines for their use; demonstration of the physiological effects of certain chemical agents.
Credit recommendation: In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category or in the upper division baccalaureate degree category, 2 semester hours as an applied professional course in Criminal Justice (12/98) (7/05 revalidation).

Train-The-Trainer - Firearms
Location: New York State Department of Correctional Services Training Academy, 1134 New Scotland Road, Albany, NY.
Length: 120 hours (3 weeks).
Dates: December 1993 - Present.
Objectives: Deliver instruction in the specialized area of firearms.
Instruction: This course builds on the Train-The-Trainer course. Course participants develop individual lesson plans and evaluation materials and deliver presentations on the specialized content. Subject matter covered includes: range safety rules and regulations; specific terminology associated with various weapons; target scoring shooter analyses.
Credit recommendation: In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category or in the upper division baccalaureate degree category, 2 semester hours as an applied professional course in Criminal Justice (12/98) (7/05 revalidation).

Train-The-Trainer - Unarmed Defensive Tactics
Location:
New York State Department of Correctional Services Training Academy, 1134 New Scotland Road, Albany, NY.
Length: 120 hours (3 weeks).
Dates: December 1993 - Present.
Objectives: Deliver instruction in the specialized area of unarmed defensive tactics.
Instruction: This course builds on the Train-The-Trainer course. Course participants develop individual lesson plans and evaluation materials and deliver presentations on the specialized content. Subject matter covered includes: overview of physical training; pressure points; come-alongs; tactical handcuffing; various frontal and rear escape techniques.
Credit recommendation: In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category or in the upper division baccalaureate degree category, 2 semester hours as an applied professional course in Criminal Justice (12/98) (7/05 revalidation).

Trainer Training in Interpersonal Communication Skills-Master Trainer Level
Dates:
April 1978 - October 1978.*
Credit recommendation: In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category or in the upper division baccalaureate degree category, 6 semester hours in Behavioral Science, Communications, Counseling, or Human Services (8/78). *NOTE: Complete information on this course can be found in the 1994 edition.
