The Department of Correctional Services is responsible for providing effective and efficient correctional programs in New York State. The Department employs approximately 30,000 persons, including some 23,000 correction officers in work settings at 70 correctional facilities, including correctional camps and community-based facilities.

The Training Academy provides entry-level training for new officers, regular in-service programs for permanent staff, and management and executive development programs. Tuition support programs and liaison activities with higher education institutions are coordinated by the Supervisor of Management Development at the Academy.
