Location: The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts, 39 West 19th
Street, New York, NY.
Length: Version 1: 30 hours (3 weeks). Version 2: 27
hours or 27.5 hours (4 weeks).

Objectives: Version 1: Discuss, appreciate,
and make applicable the basic ideas of acting to create believable characters. Version
2: Apply fundamentals of basic acting technique to create a foundation
for more advanced work.
Instruction: Version 1: Students engage in various
exercises, such as A/B scenes; observation and object; and the use of one’s
physical instrument in action. Version 2: This course introduces
the ideas of Stanislavski and the foundation of acting through script analysis,
monologues, exercises, and scenes.
Credit recommendation: Version 1: In the lower
division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 2 semester hours in Theatre,
Drama, Communications, or Radio and Television (12/02). Version
2: In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category,

Actor’s Movement (DAN110)
[Formerly Movement I (DAN101)]

Objectives: Version 1, 2, or 3: Engage in

the qualities of movement, rhythm, tempo, and breath.

Objectives: Course 1: Engage in movement explorations to build a foundation of awareness and freedom of physical motion in solo, group, and ensemble. Course
2: Apply basic principles and safety factors to unarmed stage combat.
Instruction: Course 1: Students
engage in exercises to refine the senses, strengthen concentration and improve
the qualities of movement, rhythm, tempo, and breath. Course 2: Students engage in exercises to illustrate various concepts, such as body centering and grounding, slaps, punches, chokes, slaps, punches, kicks, and reactions.
Credit recommendation: Courses 1 and 2: In
the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 1 semester hour
in Theatre, Drama, Communications, or Radio and Television (6/09 revalidation). NOTE: Courses 1 and 2 must both be completed to receive credit.*NOTE: Earlier

Commercial Basics (COM110)
[Formerly Commercial Basics (COM101)]
Location: The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts, 39 West 19th

Objectives: Version 1 or 2: Achieve awareness
of one’s potential for a professional acting career. Version
3: Achieve a basic awareness of the difference between stage and television
techniques using various forms of commercial styles.
Instruction: Version 1 or 2: Work on commercial
copy through improvisation, on camera copy, discussion of student’s type,
and how student will fit into the acting profession. Version 3: Explore Motion Only Shot and scripted commercials on camera through improvisation and text work.

Film and TV Basics (FIL110)

film acting technique; lay a foundation for the audition process and for more
advanced training in film and TV performance. Version 3:Converse comfortably using film terminology and apply camera skills and behaviors to acting craft.

engage in exercises in auditioning, breaking down a scene, and exploring basic
acting technique. Version 3: Develop camera skills through working a scene, monologues, and one and two camera set ups. Learn film and organizational terminology.

listening, making and committing to choices, agreement, and working with others.

fully supported forward placed sound that is responsive and flexible; gain
awareness of clear speech and articulation.

engage in exercises in breathing and posture, breath and emotional connection,
connection of breath to sound, articulation, resonance, applying good voice
and articulation to demands of the text. Version 4: Students engage in exercises in breathing and posture, breath and emotional connection, connection of breath to sound, articulation, resonance, applying good voice and articulation to demands of the text and develop a pre-performance warm-up.
