Location: Independent study program administered from the
offices of the Credit Union National Association; also administered in a classroom-based
format at approved locations throughout the U.S.
Length: Modules 1-4: Independent study and/or
classroom-based (approximately 32 hours).
Dates: October 1998 - Present.
Objectives: Modules 1-4: Explain the credit
union difference and its responsibilities to members; explain how to ensure
member and employee safety and prevent losses; describe and detail security
policies and appropriate behavior when faced with robbery, fraud, or forgery;
detect fraudulent instruments and explain the differences among drafts, checks,
and the various endorsements; discuss basic member services.
Instruction: Modules 1-4: Introduction to
credit unions; membership benefits and services; history and structure of credit
unions; financial and accounting concepts; federal security regulations; robbery;
opening and closing procedures; extortions and kidnappings; frauds, swindles,
and con artists; check and draft frauds; facts and features of money; handling
cash, checks, and share drafts; the clearing process; detecting bad checks
and drafts; negotiable instruments; handling the teller station; member accounts
and shares; savings and investments; credit union lending; mortgage loans;
home equity loans; ATM’s; debit cards, credit cards, and other services;
transaction services.
Credit recommendation: Modules 1-4: In the
lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 2 semester hours as
Credit Union Operations or as an elective in a Business curriculum (1/98) (2/03
revalidation) (4/08 revalidation). NOTE: Modules 1-4 must
all be completed to receive credit.

of the Credit Union National Association; also administered in a classroom-based

Length: Modules 1-3: Independent study and/or
classroom-based (approximately 32 hours).

Objectives: Modules 1-3: Describe basic accounting
functions for recording transactions and preparing financial statements; compute
depreciation amounts; prepare adjusting and closing entries; describe credit
union specific accounts and statements, with an emphasis on credit union statement
analysis.
Instruction: Modules 1-3: Accounting concepts;
recording transactions; recording adjustments; preparing the trial balance
worksheet; financial statements; closing the accounts; accounting for fixed
assets; accounting for liabilities and equity; special journals and subsidiary
ledgers; recording credit union transactions; accounting for cash; accounting
for loans; accounting for member shares; accounting for reserves and undivided
earnings; preparing financial statements of a credit union; analysis of the
balance sheet; analysis of the income statement; loan analysis; analysis of
liquidity and interest rate spreads; trend analysis; sources of industry information.
Credit recommendation: Modules 1-3: In the
lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 2 semester hours as
an Accounting elective for non-Accounting majors (1/98) (2/03 revalidation)
(4/08 revalidation). NOTE: Modules 1-3 must all be completed
to receive credit.

Location: Independent study program administered from the offices
of the Credit Union National Association; also administered in a classroom-based
format at approved locations throughout U.S.
Length: Modules 1-3: Independent study and/or
classroom-based (approximately 32 hours).
Dates: October 1998 - Present.
Objectives: Modules 1-3: Identify the four
elements of the marketing mix; discuss the marketing plan process; describe
the creation of the marketing budget; identify pricing strategies; describe
the features of product design; list the key elements of advertising; relate
the development of interpersonal skills and successful selling techniques.
Instruction: Modules 1-3: Strategic issues;
marketing plan; marketing issues for different types of loans; pricing and
marketing; product development; marketing tools; advertising media; examples
of successful loan strategies; overcoming sales objections; developing product
knowledge; enhancing listening skills; telephone sales techniques; creating
customer service; understanding communication styles; using that knowledge
to create influence; applying style and flexibility; understanding non-verbal
messages; dealing with difficult people; creating a personal communication
model.
Credit recommendation: Modules 1-3: In the
lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 2 semester hours as
Financial Institutions Marketing or as an elective in a Business curriculum
(1/98) (2/03 revalidation) (4/08 revalidation). NOTE: Modules
1-3 must all be completed to receive credit. NOTE: This sequence
and the sequence of modules contained in the next exhibit overlap in content.
Care should be taken to avoid awarding duplicate credit.
