National Surveys of Academic Institutions
"College and University Profiles

The colleges and universities listed in this section (go directly to list) have reported willingness to consider awarding credit for learning experiences evaluated by the National Program on Noncollegiate Sponsored Instruction. This list has been compiled primarily from responses to national surveys of academic institutions conducted in 1988, 1993 and 1999 and regular email updates. Follow this link to read more about the surveys.

This list is primarily intended to assist adult learners and representatives of noncollegiate organizations in making contact with college officials to discuss how evaluated learning experiences can be applied toward college degrees. To facilitate this process, National PONSI has compiled the names and phone numbers of contacts at almost all of the institutions listed. Contact information is updated annually during the spring semester.

Inclusion on this list does not mean that an institution automatically awards the credit recommended; requests for credit are typically evaluated on a case by case basis. The way a noncollegiate learning experience fits into an individual's degree program must also be taken into consideration. Conversely, it should not be concluded that an institution will never award credit for noncollegiate learning experiences, including those evaluated by National PONSI, because the institution does not appear on this list. In addition to the colleges and universities listed here, many survey respondents indicated their institution conducts individualized portfolio assessment for adult learners. Credit recommendations established by National PONSI may become a part of such portfolios.

Please read more about
becoming a cooperating college or university.

In addition, many colleges and universities have elected to supply additional information about programs and services of special interest to nontraditional students. Please view the
profiles submitted by these institutions. (Institutions with profiles on this website are also identified on the complete list of cooperating colleges, and linked to their profiles.)
