About National PONSI

Established in 1973, the National Program on Noncollegiate College Credit Recommendations Directory representation of print version which is now online as CCR OnlineSponsored
Instruction (National PONSI), housed within the New York State Education Department in Albany, New York, is an educational advisory service that links learning experiences that take place outside of college classrooms to college degrees. How? National PONSI evaluates learning experiences for noncollegiate organizations throughout the United States and overseas and makes the results available to colleges to use as a guide in awarding credit for noncollegiate course work. Until  2002, college credit recommendations appeared in the print publication, College Credit Recommendations, pictured at right, and is now FREE in CCR Online).

As a program of the Board of Regents of The University of the State of New York, the most comprehensive educational organization in the nation, National PONSI has been highly successful in obtaining academic recognition for noncollegiate learning experiences for over 30 years. More than 1,500 colleges and universities currently report willingness to consider awarding credit based on National PONSI's credit recommendations. Our member organizations include some of the best known names in corporate America, as well as labor unions, government agencies, professional and voluntary organizations, cultural institutions, and healthcare organizations.

Whether you are involved in training and development, a college official involved in prior learning assessment, or an individual wondering whether you may be able to earn college credit for a noncollegiate learning experience you've taken, you will find useful information here. The links on the navigation side bar will take you to major points of interest and from there to every page on our site. For convenience, we have also developed a quick links page that connects to the  four major sections of the website and also provides an option for specific users to identify the sections and pages that may be of most importance to them.  And, if you have comments or questions that remain unanswered, we are always available by email or phone. The pertinent information is listed below.

We welcome your feedback on this website and the services provided by National PONSI.
